Crisscrosses: Benny Andrews and the Poetry of Langston Hughes at The Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University in Atlanta features drawings and works on paper by Benny Andrews that engage with the poetry of Langston Hughes. The exhibition draws out similarities between Andrews and Hughes, who expressed their shared sociopolitical concerns for Black Americans through their respective art forms. The creative liberties Andrews took in translating Hughes' poems to a visual format provide audiences with new ways of connecting with and exploring the joys, tragedies, and sorrows of the Black American experience found in the poet's verse.
