About the Willie Dynamite:

Join us for a special screening of the 1974 film, Willie Dynamite, starring Roscoe Orman. All Classic Black Cinema films this season were released in 1974 -- the year of our founding - - to celebrate the Gantt Golden Year, our 50th anniversary!

This film took place during the 1970s "Blaxploitation" era. Though extreme in the way pimp culture is presented, this story incorporated a realistic angle by taking a dark look at what it is like to be pimp or a prostitute. In the midst of all of this, a social worker implores Willie to change his ways.

Don't miss the chance to experience this classic film in a vibrant and culturally rich atmosphere.

About Classic Black Cinema Series:

Specifically designed as a vehicle to expose the community to the vast artistic value black film has had throughout the years, the goal of the film series is to appeal to as diverse a population as possible and further the appreciation of Black cinema.

Curator and host, Felix Curtis, came to Charlotte from the Oakland/San Francisco Bay area where he curated The San Francisco Black Film Festival and Black Filmworks, the annual film festival component of the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame, where he later served as Executive Director.
